Social Security Disability

Disability is a possibility most people do not think about, but the chances of becoming disabled during one's lifetime are greater than we might imagine. In fact, according to studies performed by the Social Security Administration, one out of four workers will become disabled at some point during his or her lifetime, and yet few people make arrangements and plan for disability.

The Social Security Disability Program is designed to pay money to persons who are classified as "disabled". The definition of "disability" is not the same in all government and private disability programs. Also, a diagnosis by a private organization or other government agency that a person is disabled does not necessarily mean that he or she meets the disability requirements of the Social Security Act.
